For those of you new to IRC chat we have provided this page to supply you with information about most of the commands you can use to improve your chatting experience. Most of them are simple, once you know how, but can seem daunting at first. Old hands of IRC and seasoned mIRC users won't need to bother with this page much, but a look now and again won't hurt! Even Admin comes here sometimes, as he's not the sharpest knife in the cutlery drawer!

All commands below are standard IRC commands. Where you see <xxxxxx> , you type the details you provide, but do not type the <> marks. All commands begin with a '/' ... if you do not type the / ... your command will not work. If you get stuck, someone will swiftly help you out.

On joining our server for the first time via the Java website, you will automatically be given the nickname 'Visitor'. Please change that name to the nickname you require by typing the following: -

/NICK <newname> (Example: /NICK greatfun ). You will then be seen as 'greatfun' in any chat window when you speak.

Once you have your chosen nickname, it is suggested that you register it to prevent someone else from taking it and abusing it. Registering your nickname is a one-off procedure. To do this, type the following: -

/NICKSERV REGISTER <your_password> <your_email> (Example: /NICKSERV REGISTER mypassword myemail@home.com)

Please make sure your password is five characters or more in length, and contains only the letters a-z and numbers 0-9. It is case sensative. Also, keep your password safe. If you lose it, please contact the Admin staff as they can recover it for you.

On each occasion you return to our server, when you logon you will have to 'Identify' to the server - this proves you are the owner of the nickname you are using. To do this, type the following: -

/NICKSERV IDENTIFY <your_password> (Example: /NICKSERV IDENTIFY mypassword) The password you put here is the one you used to Register your nickname with.

This completes your name change, nickname registration and how to Identify to our server. The commands below are slightly more advanced, and will help you to do Actions and find out things about fellow chatters. However, you do not have to use any of them should you wish not to.
